About me
Mr. Michael D. Reiner is the Assistant Vice President of Public Safety at Creighton University. He retired from the US Air Force as a colonel after serving for over 25 years as a Security Forces officer. During his military career, Reiner commanded an air base group, three Security Forces squadrons, and a cadet squadron at the US Air Force Academy, and deployed in support of Operations SUPPORT JUSTICE IV (Colombia), IRAQI FREEDOM (Iraq), and RESOLUTE SUPPORT (Afghanistan).
In 2016, Reiner transitioned to the private sector to assume his current role, protecting a community of over 10,000 students, faculty, and staff who live, learn, and play on a 130-acre university campus in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, and a separate health sciences campus in Phoenix, Arizona. He chairs the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Critical Incident Response Team, leading the planning and execution of coordinated responses to physical, cyber, and reputational threats to the University. He manages all campus safety and security technology systems, including video surveillance, card access, panic buttons, and fire alarm systems. He coordinates compliance with the Clery Act, Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, and other applicable federal and state laws. He also manages campus parking, transportation, fire safety, and EHS services, and serves on the University Threatening Behavior Committee, Campus Planning Committee, and Title IX Advisory Committee.
Reiner earned a bachelor’s degree in astronautical engineering and master’s degrees in criminal justice, strategic intelligence, and strategic studies. He holds the highest security management board certifications in the military and civilian sectors: ASIS International's Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency's Security Program Integration Professional Certification (SPIPC). He is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar Session 67 and the Harvard Business School "Manage Mentor" Program.
